Our Work
At Oscar’s Kids, we believe that hope is the cornerstone of progress in the battle against cancer. And hope is supported by our three foundational pillars, each aimed at making a meaningful impact in the lives of children and families affected by pediatric cancer.
Funding Breakthrough Research
Research holds the key to stronger prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, which is why we invest in brilliant minds like Dr. Michelle Monje, Professor of Neurology and Neurological Sciences and a Pediatric Neuro-Oncologist at Stanford University School of Medicine.
A mere 15 years ago, our understanding of DIPG was veiled in uncertainty, hindered by the absence of crucial tools like mouse models and cell cultures – but Dr. Monje embarked on a mission to break down these barriers, and her laboratory laid the foundation for significant advancements. We now know more about how DIPG integrates into the brain and nervous system, as well as how this impacts its development and our own immune responses. Incredibly, this marked the beginning of Cancer Neuroscience as an emerging field of medicine – and a critical step in lighting a beacon of hope that we can defeat DIPG.
Creating Magic Moments
Oscar’s Kids Magic Moments is about orchestrating connections that chase away shadows. For example, reminiscent of how Melissa first met Oscar, children receive messages from celebrity heroes – an endless list of major actors, musicians and athletes. These messages are a testament to the extraordinary power of human connection, and our carefully curated moments remind families that even in the face of illness, life can be vibrant, wondrous, and utterly magical.
Building Bridges of Support
At its heart, Oscars Kids recognizes that the fight against cancer extends far beyond the sterile walls of a hospital. We connect families, researchers, and advocates so that no one feels they are on this journey alone. By facilitating access to support groups and resources, we aim to build up and unite this community bound by love and courage.
